The Misplaced Affections of Charlotte Fforbes

Author(s): Catherine Robertson

General fiction

When Charlotte Fforbes inadvertently falls in love with her boss, her usual cool self-control is tested to its limit. Thus far, Charlotte has carefully avoided love's emotional tar pit, but suddenly she is in it up to her neck. Her first strategy is to ignore it - for one thing, boss Patrick is a husband and father. Then Charlotte is given a clue that Patrick's marriage may not be as stable as believed, and that is enough to fan a spark of hope into an infatuation-fuelled inferno. Transformed from efficient PA into a woman whose reason has been muffled with duct-tape and locked in a cellar, she'll now do anything to find a way into Patrick's heart. Anything includes arranging to be nanny-for-a-month to the small children of Patrick and his wife and two other families at a Lake Como villa. Charlotte's complete lack of child-minding experience daunts her the least. If she's to win Patrick, she must also prevent his cousin's wife being seduced by her charming, feckless ex, while fending off dogs, Gypsy gatecrashers and a large, vengeful ghost from Patrick's past. But Charlotte's biggest test will come when she is forced to question whether her affections have been entirely misplaced - and, if so, was this her last chance to ever feel love like this again?

Product Information

Catherine Robertson, writer of bestselling chick lit novels, was born in Wellington and attended Victoria University of Wellington. She left New Zealand for a while to live in San Francisco and Buckinghamshire, but is now back home. She lives in a house by the sea with her husband who sheds bicycle bits, a black labrador who sheds hair, a cat who sheds bits of whatever it's just eaten, and two sons who shed all of the above. Owning and running a marketing business with her husband, she also teaches budding entrepreneurs through Grow Wellington's 'Activate' programme. Her debut novel, The Sweet Second Life of Darrell Kincaid, hit the New Zealand bestseller list immediately, making its way to number one. She quickly followed this novel up with The Not So Perfect Life of Mo Lawrence. Hailed as 'a new national treasure', Catherine was a featured author at the 2012 Frankfurt Book Fair, and both of her books have been published in Germany. Kerre Woodham wrote of The Sweet Second Life of Darrell:'This is the novel I wish I had written a warm, laugh-out-loud, funny romantic comedy. Fans of Marion Keyes, who is the benchmark for clever, witty chick lit, will love this ... Robertson is a refreshing new writer in the chick lit genre and deserves to be an international success. I just wish I'd written it.' Reviewing the follow-up novel, The Not So Perfect Life of Mo Lawrence, Woodham declared: 'An earthy, authentic tale of love and loss, Roberston has built on her reputation as a writer of great romantic comedy.' The Dominion Post Weekend heralded it as 'Chick Lit meets Lake Wobegon that is, the men are good-looking and the women are strong.'
